Tick season has started here in Brisbane fast, and it’s going to be a bad one. Talking to a vet, they have already had an unexpected early start to this year’s tick season. So please check that your pets tick treatment is up-to-date and remember to retreat as per the treatment label for the next 3-4 months.
Also, there are a few things you can do to help to reduce ticks in your yard. Start by ensuring any long grass and weeds are cut down, mow the lawn frequently. Next, remove old furniture, mattresses, or trash from the yard that may give ticks a place to hide. Finally, discourage unwelcome animals (such as koalas, bandicoots, possums, kangaroos and stray dogs) from entering your yard by ensuring your fences are in good condition and gates are kept closed.
Now get planting; Garlic, sage, mint, lavender, Callicarpa beautyberry, rosemary and marigolds are some of the most familiar and effective tick-repelling plants. They are great to use in landscaping borders around decks, walkways, pet runs, patios and other areas to keep ticks away.
