In the last few weeks our qualified technicians were called to a major termite attack to a home in Forestdale. The house was not the client's primary residence but their investment property. They had been made aware of a possible termite problem by their tenants and called us immediately as we had completed a termite inspection for them a year before at their home.
Upon arriving our technician confirmed a severe inactive termite damage in the skirting boards, door frames and window frames throughout the home. Our technician also found termite workings in the joists of the roof timbers. Given the severity of the termite damage we recommend a chemical barrier treatment to close off the entry points and protect the home from any further termite damage now or in the future.
How can you avoid a situation like this?
Termite attacks are stressful and expensive, between the remedial treatments, repairs and preventative treatments you're easily up for thousands. There are a few things you can do to avoid the stress and financial strain of a termite attack on your investment property. The first of which is get the property inspected for termites at least annually. This is in line with Australian Standards and most likely will pick up any termite activity before they can do any serious (and expensive) structural damage to the home.
Inspections are fantastic but by far the best thing you can do to protect your investment property is to make sure your termite management system is current. You might be wondering, but what does that mean? It means a chemical barrier or a monitoring/baiting system. Out of the two options a chemical barrier offers superior termite protection and is ideal for rentals as it continues to protect the investment property with very little maintenance required.
The chemical barrier carries a full 5 year warranty so you can rest easy knowing your investment is protected from termites. Don't rely on tenants to tell you when something is wrong, be proactive in protecting your nest egg!
