Carpet Case Moth/Carpet Beetle

There are two types of clothes moth species found in Australia: the Case Bearing Clothes Moth and the Common Clothes Moth.  The case-bearing clothes moths are identified by the larvae, having a protective silk case in which they live while feeding.

These following signs are indications that your home has been infested by carpet case moth:

  • Webbing in textiles
  • Bare spots in your carpets

  • Sand like particles 
  • Larvae - creamy-white caterpillars with a dark head
  • The moth 
Check areas:

When looking for signs of carpet beetle, consider looking at places where the carpet seems uneven. Carpet beetles prefer to hide in dark, undisturbed and protected areas.

 

Consider checking in places such as:

  • Along skirting boards
  • Airducts
  • Under baseboards
  • In and under upholstered furniture
  • Woollens
  • Textile products with animal fibres
  • Clothing garments
